All of us who have suffered from chronic migraine attacks have sought help and answers from many sources without finding what we seek. But now there are some real answers available and this knowledge is empowering to those of us who know the debilitating pain of migraines.
The general medical information given to patients regarding migraine disease is that the cause is unknown. However, that is not accurate. Migraine diseases is now linked to a couple of specific viruses that can attack a cranial nerve when the body’s defenses are down. The shingles virus and the herpes virus are known be able to attack the trigeminal nerve, causing a migraine on one side of the head and face. The herpes virus has also been shown to cause cluster headaches. The Epstein Barr virus is known to attack the vagus nerve, causing severe head pain all over. Both types of migraines can come with nausea and other symptoms. These one to three day attacks occur only when the person's immune system is suppressed due to prolonged physical, emotional or mental stress. When the nervous system is in the sympathetic state, referred to as fight or flight, for an extended period of time, such as days, the immune system is "off-line". Viruses know the chemical signal for when the immune system is "off-line" and they come out to attack where the body is weak. This information was first disclosed by Anthony William and has recently be corroborated by scientific studies.
I first read Anthony Williams in 2016. It was a godsend because following just a few of his suggestions reduced my migraine attacks and my migraines continued to decline. Within two years my life was considerable better, with far less attacks and a migraine only lasted a couple of hours. But at that time, Anthony William’s information on migraine disease was not backed up by studies that were accessible online. That has all changed.
Fast forward to 2021. I was living in Hawaii and I got Covid-19. It was a variant of that virus which made me very sick with a severe headache. I ended up with Covid toes, (diagnosis by the hospital) and I was light headed for weeks. Out of desperation, I went to a clinic to receive ozone treatment, which eliminated my light-headedness immediately. But Covid brought back my migraines, and it took me a while to figure out why. I later learned that with the increased viral load and inflammation caused by Covid, it was taxing my immune system. With the immune system busy, shingles and Epstein Barr had a more open road for their frequent attacks.
In a way, I was back to square one, treating my migraines by treating the viruses once again. I re-engaged Anthony William’s protocol with gradual results. The bad news about these viruses is that we don’t have a quick fix to eliminate them. The fastest way to eradicate them is to keep the immune system strong with good self-care, and keep stress low so the immune system can keep the viruses away.
As a health coach, I’ve learned enough about migraine disease to help others find their health once again. Knowledge is power and I enjoy empowering people to regain their health.

Here is an example of how the body could be vulnerable to a migraine attack:
A person with a history of a head injury, neck injury, stroke, or brain injury from drugs, illness or other damage to their central nervous system is more vulnerable to a virus attacking a cranial nerve.
The immune system keeps all viruses at bay while the body is healthy, well rested, in a parasympathetic state of low stress, or tolerating stress very well.
Once the person experiences an event that weakens the immune system, and the sympathetic nervous system is activated, (fight or flight), it puts the body into survival mode, turning on survival systems, which does not include the immune system. Then a virus has the opportunity to strike.
In the case of migraines, shingles, or the Epstein Barr virus, attacks a cranial nerve, which causes the migraines symptoms.
Rest and self-care are required to get the body out of fight or flight so that the immune system can regain control and keep the virus at bay.
A strong immune system and good self-care are the best ways to avoid migraines.
A way to prevent migraines in the future is to lower the viral load by taking appropriate herbs that will reduce, and possibly eliminate, the virus.
Most plants that we can safely consume are antiviral in nature. Eating a diet high in plants is a great way to lower your viral counts.
There is hope for you or your loved one with migraines. With dedication and self-care, living a better life is close at hand. Fewer days with migraines and shorter attacks can happen quickly. Eventually, eliminating the virus can keep you living without migraines. If you want support in your journey to get well, I offer personalized coaching to walk you through the steps you need to take to be well again.
